Semer Water route map

Summary
Distance : 9 miles / 14.6 kilometers
Required map & Grid Reference : Outdoor Leisure Map 30 & GR 934904
Start / Finish : Bainbridge village centre.
Estimated time : 4-5 hours
Total ascent : 1450 feet / 414 meters
Terrain : Mainly good, dry paths. The first stretch is an old roman road - a stony track. There is some walking around the reservoir and that can occasionally be damp. In bad weather the tracks from Marsett to Stalling Busk can be flooded (but passable).
Toilets : Bainbridge village centre - the bottom part of the green, near the playground.
Refreshments :

There is a tea shop and a couple of pubs in Bainbridge. There are also many other refreshment spots in nearby Hawes or Aysgarth.

On the walk, a detour to Stalling Busk may allow for a refreshment stop at Raydale preserves. (Aunt Lena's picalili is highly recommended by the author - along with many other delights!)

First Steps From the top of the village green, take a side road. It is the road to Countersett. Follow the road up and out of the viallage for about a quarter of a mile. When the road bends left, keep straight on up the old roman Cam High Road, a stony track stetching straight up the hill.
Things to look out for As soon as you hit the Cam High Road you start to get fantastic views over Wensleydale. Later you get magnificnet views over Semer Water, Bardale and Raydale. Stalling Busk church (a ruin by the waterside) is a lovely stop.
Other walks from Bainbridge. There are several variations that take you from Bainbridge around Semer Water - eg taking the east path along the water and up High Lane and Shaw Gate Gill, to return by Carpley Green. Addlebrough is also an attractive trip.
